The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Software Engineer Undergraduate Intern for an internship opportunity. This position will be located in El Segundo, CA.

The qualified candidate will become part of the hardware & Embedded cyber section of the cyber software and testing department in the cybersecurity subdivision.


  • Applies leading edge techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a series of software engineering tasks.
  • Develop software including web applications and scripts to enable team collaboration for software testing and verification
  • Increase the security of next-generation ground control systems and spacecraft by applying machine learning to detect anomalies and cyber incidents.
  • Research defensive cyber tools and methods
  • Pen-test complex networks, mission software, and Embedded systems for security vulnerabilities and provide specific findings and recommendations.
  • Develop cyber training resources in areas such as reverse engineering, web exploitation, and forensics with lab components modeled on capture-the-flag exercises
  • Learning new skills
  • Training and mentorship will be provided

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited college/university degree program pursuing a Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related program
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Minimum GPA 3.0
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance (typically a U.S. citizen)
  • US Citizenship required
  • Exhibit high level of innovation, creativeness, and initiative
  • Some experience in Java, C++, and Python
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to changing organizational need.


  • GPA 3.5 or higher
  • Active security clearance
  • Working knowledge of the several of the following: C, Python, and MySQL
  • Familiarity with Service Oriented Architecture, Fortran, Fortify and Splunk
  • Knowledge of Unix/Linux Operating Systems.
  • Experience in software testing, verification, and validation
  • Experience with agile software development practices
  • Experience with cloud-based architectures and platforms
  • Experience with data visualization and user interfaces
  • Experience with information assurance and cyber security
  • Experience with modern data analytics (eg machine learning, data mining)
  • Experience with airborne vehicle systems and/or spacecraft systems
  • Participation in one or more software development or computer engineering projects in aerospace-related applications (eg UAVs, CubeSats, robotics)
  • Some familiarity with Secure Software Development Life Cycle Processes
